Boxing is a combat sport in which two people, usually wearing protective gloves, throw punches at each other for a predetermined amount of time in a boxing ring.
Amateur boxing is both an Olympic and Commonwealth Games sport and is a common fixture in most international games—it also has its own World Championships. Boxing is overseen by a referee over a series of one- to three-minute intervals called rounds.
Mike Tyson fought more patiently than in his previous two bouts as it appeared he had been instructed to take his time, get in rounds, and work on his technique.
Don Halpin mostly worked behind a jab and connected with a left hook as the round ended.
Iron Mike Tyson landed several more shots in the round that snapped back Halpin's head. A left hook followed by a right hand hurt Don Halpin and sent him back into the ropes.

This was the first Mike Tyson fight I ever saw. Being in Washington state and no internet, I've never even heard of him before this fight.
Iron Mike Tyson Earlier in the card, Bert Cooper fought on the card. Just like Mike Tyson, he also had a record of 9-0 with 9 Knockout going into this night. Not surprisingly Cooper's first fight to go the distance took place, and this continued a trend where it seemed every time I saw a fighter with Knockout in all his victories I happened to witness the first fight to go the distance.
When Mike Tyson is record was announced I knew it was going to happen twice in one night. Obviously, that didn't happen, and I knew like pretty much everybody else who watched this fight that he was going to be heavyweight champion of the world.
The story of Donnie Long is actually surprisingly interesting. Jailed for murder at only 18 (he claimed self-defense), married the sister of the guy he killed, got released and started boxing. It just goes to show that the journeymen you see on a top fighter's resume all have stories and struggles of their own, just as much as any great name fighter or champion.
There's a middle-aged guy called Donnie Long who makes music too now, but I'm not sure if it's our Donnie Long. I've always found this pre-fight interview hilarious, that fucking smile, almost like he's not even trying to hide the fact that he's full of shit. "I can punch...if not better than Mike Tyson".
Wherever Donnie Long actually is today, I hope he's doing well.
